Liz Millward’s recent book, Killing Off the Lesbians: A Symbolic Annihilation on Film and Television, showed how lesbian and bisexual characters have always and continue to die at alarming rates on screen. Because this is such a dominant and tenacious narrative, the challenge for filmmakers is to tell a different story that allows lesbians to survive and thrive. This talk looks at some of the dominant storylines and then focuses on the efforts of filmmakers to give their lesbian characters a future. More info here.
